Let me say this – I can understand why people who never actually go to a live recording, don’t enjoy South African Idols.  I watched the TOP 7 show on TV this past Sunday, and it was cringe worthy. The sound was aweful! The only thing that is positive about watching it on TV is the crowd noise is a) minimized and b) cut short.

This year, more than any other, the crowd is ridiculously loud. And while that may seem like a good thing, as a loud crowd creates an atmosphere – it is everything but. This past Friday has been the loudest, with cheers for every single contestant registering at over 100dB.  That is both dangerously and annoyingly loud.

I say this to give context to this statement:  I can only comment on the performances I actually heard.  Brenden’s fan’s were cheering so loudly during his performance I couldn’t even hear what song he was singing, for example.  The performance of the night for me (and once I could actually hear) was Sonke doing Michael Bolton’s ‘Go the Distance’.

As for who I think will go home after the recording of the “From the Movies” theme – I’m not sure.  I think it may be the end of the road for Crystalene tonight. Incidently, it was Crystalene that I sat down with for a chat after the show.
