TODAY’S SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: Luke 3:21-22 (NLT)
*The Baptism of Jesus*
*21 *One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was
baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened, *22 *and the Holy
Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from
heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great
This is one of the verses in scripture that we seem to hear, and
remember, quite often. Usually, though, we hear it in the NIV which
says “my son, in whom I am well pleased”. I love that the NLT uses
the term “bring me great joy”.
Those few words reveal a great truth about the God we serve – the God
who was filled with joy when Jesus was obedient and went to be
baptised. They real that the God we serve is not a miserable, angry,
judgmental, distant, aloof God for whom a smile is a foreign concept.
Rather, He is a God who finds joy in things that happen on earth
concerning His sons and daughters. He is filled with joy when His
people do the right thing.
A CALL TO ACTION
Thinking of God as a joyful God is not something that comes naturally
to everyone. Today – be conscious to think of what things you can do
that would bring God joy, things that would put a smile on His face.
Don’t be proud about them, however, rather use the opportunity to
please your God as an act of worship.
A PRAYER TO PRAY
Father Thank you that you have given me the privilege of being able to
do things that please you. Today as I serve you in that way, looking
for opportunities to please you, help me to do so with an attitude of
worship, to your glory. Amen.
