I’m one of those guys – the small things are big things; they mean a lot. This is sometimes an awesome thing, sometimes a challenging things. But it’s a part of myself I have embraced. So, after a few recent encounters I figured I would share a few of those “small things” that have meant a lot in my life.

I’ll start with the most recent, as this is what has really sparked this conversation.

At the end of 2010, Tam and I packed up, said our goodbyes and moved to the city of gold. For us, it was an awesome experience of change and a new future. However, there few a handful of people who didn’t understand our decision and a few people I hurt in the process.

One of these people had been a very big part of my life for almost 15 years. Leaving EL, we didn’t even say goodbye. In the months that lay ahead we had little contact, and what contact we had was circumstantial.

Fast forward to this past week. An email from this same person ended with three simple words:

Small things. Small things that reflect time gone by. Small things that are evidence of healing; forgiveness; grace. Small things that reflect a relationship restored.

Life is both too short to hold onto friendships that are going no where and too short to walk away from friendships into which we have invested much. Therein lies the dilemma. I’m afraid I have no wisdom to share regarding which friendships are which.

All I know is that for me, that small thing counted.

Lots of love.
