THE LORD WAS WITH HIM
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: 1 Sam 18:10-16
*10 *The very next day a tormenting spirit from God overwhelmed Saul,
and he began to rave in his house like a madman. David was playing the
harp, as he did each day. But Saul had a spear in his hand, *11 *and
he suddenly hurled it at David, intending to pin him to the wall. But
David escaped him twice.
*12 *Saul was then afraid of David, for the Lord was with David and
had turned away from Saul.*13 *Finally, Saul sent him away and
appointed him commander over 1,000 men, and David faithfully led his
troops into battle.
*14 *David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was
with him. *15 *When Saul recognized this, he became even more afraid
of him. *16 *But all Israel and Judah loved David because he was so
successful at leading his troops into battle.
Imagine if those were the words on your tomb stone one day: “The
Lord was with him”.
The Lord was with David. He found favour and success. What really
inspires me about this, is that the presence of God was so strong upon
David’s life that even others could see it. What a challenge!
The expression “The Lord was with David” is different to the
promise of God’s presence. It refers to the fact that the Lord
ordained and blessed everything that David did. This blessing would
have been as a response to David’s obedience and desire to do what
A CALL TO ACTION
That should be our goal: for the presence of God to be so strongly
evident in our lives as a result of our desire to do what He requires
of us. Pursue that today. In everything you think, say and do, have
the purposes of God as the goal. As you seek His will, His blessing
will naturally follow you.
A PRAYER TO PRAY
Lord help me today to seek Your will above all else. Help me to think
thoughts and act in a way that honours you. Be with me, go ahead of me
and may I too know your favour upon my life. In Jesus name, amen.
