I've spent my life in the local church — on the platform and behind it.

I'm Mark Paul. (Okay, my surname is actually Odendaal — but then people expect me to be Afrikaans, and that inevitably becomes a longer conversation than it needs to be.)

My story is one of church and ministry. I grew up in South African church life and never really left it. I’ve served on staff at three churches, worked with many more from the platform and behind the scenes, spent about four years behind a radio mic, and have had the privilege of travelling to Israel many times.

Over the years, ministry has meant leading worship on Sundays, preparing and preaching messages, running communications, shaping creative teams, building volunteer culture, choosing platforms and, quite often, quietly fixing the systems nobody else wanted to own.

Somewhere along the way, I started noticing the same pattern in church after church. The people were faithful, the mission was clear (or at least mostly clear!) and the effort was real — but the tools, messaging and internal systems were often pulling against each other.

Leaders were exhausted by things that should have been simple. Communication became complicated. Technology that was supposed to help became one more thing to manage. And good people spent enormous amounts of energy keeping systems alive that no longer really served the ministry.

That's the space I work in now.

I help churches and ministry leaders think clearly about communication, technology, worship and structure — not as separate projects, but as parts of one bigger question:

Does the way we work actually serve what we're here to do?

I care about that question because I've sat in the chairs. I know what it's like to lead a team on four hours' sleep, preach while carrying a staffing problem, troubleshoot a livestream during a service, wonder whether anyone actually read the email, and try to make ministry happen when the systems underneath it aren't helping.

So nothing here is purely theoretical. I'll always try to tell you what I'd actually do, not simply what sounds impressive.

Alongside this work, I lead teaching tours to Israel — walking the land with people and watching Scripture come alive in a way that rarely happens in a classroom.

And the greatest privilege of my life is being husband to Tam, a headmistress, and dad to Seth and Nate — the two most incredible young men you'll ever meet.
